  • Written by Administrator on Sunday, 18 September 2011 17:00

Good day Ward 8 Democrats. I am writing to you today to simply say thank you for all of your support for my candidacy for President of the Ward 8 Democrats Inc.

Thank you to those who believed in my vision for moving the Ward 8 Democrats forward. I thank everyone who committed their time and energy into my campaign ---from stuffing envelopes to being a political sounding board. I thank each and every one of you who put your personal and professional reputations on the line for me. And last, but certainly not least, I thank all 130 Ward 8 Democrats for having the courage to cast your vote for me. Please know that I do not take that lightly. Your efforts on my behalf were not, and will not, be in vain.

Over the past several months, I have met some extraordinary Ward 8 residents from many different backgrounds, diverse experiences, and of various mindsets. Despite the outcome of yesterday's election, it is my hope that we will continue to build to higher heights. There is so much work to do here in the Ward. I commit to doing my part, and in the weeks to come, I will personally be calling on you to do the same.

I extend a heartfelt congratulation to Joyce Scott, and her entire slate. May each of you go forth and do great things in your respective roles. It is my prayer that you will serve the Ward 8 Democrats organization with the highest level of inclusiveness, respect, professionalism, and committment. As individuals who have been selected to serve, we the people, Democrats of Ward 8, now hold you accountable.

In closing, I challenge all of Ward 8 to become passionate about something bigger than yourselves. It is in that space that we, personally and collectively, become great, and receive some of life's greatest lessons and blessings.

    That's all for now ...

"What Ms. Natalie Williams brings as a candidate for the presidency of the Ward Eight Democrats is her "newness"! New ideas, new perspectives and new energy! Although new to the Ward, Ms. Williams is no stranger to the unique Democratic politics of Ward 8. She has worked with many of us on various projects for years. It will take willingness to work with and respect for those who have labored in our communities for years combined with an inviting and welcoming attitude toward our newer residents to build on the foundation that the current officers have worked so hard to build during my administration. It is because I believe Ms. Williams has these characteristics that I endorse her candidacy for Ward Eight Democrats, Inc. president. "

"I would like to applaud both Mayor Vincent Gray and President Barack Obama for their leadership in recognizing the urgency in addressing the unemployment crisis here in the District of Columbia, and across our Nation.

With the national unemployment rate at 9.1%, of which 35,000 are residents of Washington DC, it is important that we continue to take bold and deliberate moves, as both have done, if it is our sincere hope to reduce the numbers and get Americans, particularly District residents, back to work.
